Pep Rallys and Basketball games

Postby SweetT » Fri Aug 01, 2008 1:50 pm

Hey does anyone remember those fantastic Pep Rallys and Basketball games we had in that old gym at Rule? "Who dat talkin 'bout beat dem bears?" "Who dat?" I was there from "76-80" and I loved every minute of it. I played a little at Beardsley for Coach Ernie Greeno but when I got to Rule........well those guys under Coach Darden just ran too dang much. Man I can almost smell the aroma of that popcorn popping in the gym and the crowd going wild as the "Golden Bears" took the court. Hey to Chris Coach in Seattle, Washington! Sweetest Jumper I ever saw!

Hey Golden Bears !!
I recall a basketball game back in probaly the late 60s,
when Danny Brown scored somewhere in the neighborhood
of 50 points to break someones scoring record.
Who`s record was it and what team were we playing
when it was done ?

Hey Steve, it was 1969 against West scored 44 have no Idea who the previous record holder was. Missed a few layups at the end because my arm was so tired. I had a couple of more games like that in college but they weren't as important as that one!

Hey Danny good to hear from you.
How are you doing ?
I have been waiting a few years for
an answer to my question .
Thanks for the answer .
I think the most points scored was by one of the England
boys . Jimmy or Gary ,
Stop by Shoneys on Broadway .on the first Saturday
of the month and have breakfast with some of the old
alumna.Talk with you later .

Thanks Steve, I try to keep up with everyone. Mom and Dad had moved to sevierville. Dad passed a few weeks ago so it's Mom on her own for the time being trying to get her to come to Atlanta. Dennis and I both live here but that seems to be impossible. If I'm ever there on the 1st Saturday I'll try to come. I believe Dennis took Mom to Beaumont church recently.

Steve, in my junior year a guy from Farragut scored 60 on us. Robert Walker thought he could guard him. Adolph Rupp was in the stands that night and that guy eventually signed with Kentucky. Can't remember his name (getting too old)

Hey Danny!
I think the player you are talking about
is Chris Gettlefinger.

Hey Steve, just saw your post and you made me think long and hard about it. Gettlefinger played for Catholoic as a matter of fact Terry Farmer dated his cousin a few times. The guy I was talking about was Eugene Zanolli who played at Bearden and signed with Kentucky. Mother still has the picture of all of us in 1968 including Rupert Breedlove from East.
Gettlefinger is in that picture.

OK my bad, I had to go to Kentucky's roster and discovered it was Kent Hollenbeck that I was talking about. I don't know where I came up up with Zanolli. Like I said I'm old!!!
