Samuel Edward Moyers Sr.



MOYERS, SAMUEL EDWARD SR. - resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on February 28, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Moyers was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on September 8, 1922. He was a graduate of Rule High School and was retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he worked as a Carman. Mr. Moyers was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ada and George D. Moyers; brother George Moyers and grandson, Matthew Moyers. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Moyers; sons Sam and Bob Moyers and their wives Sarah and Christine; grandchildren Robert C. Moyers and wife Michelle, Melanie Moyers, Jennifer Depalma and husband Mike, and great-grandson Gavin Depalma. Mr. Moyers was a charter member of Lonsdale United Methodist Church, having started attending while he was an infant. He was a faithful member and served as an usher until his illness and hospitalization. Mr. Moyers was a Mason and a 50 year member of Masters Lodge #24. A special thanks to the nurses and staff of Jefferson Memorial Rehabilitation Center. We will never forget your kindness and care. And many thanks to his pastor Aldana Allen and church family, who kept him constantly in their prayers. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Thursday Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with Pastor Aldana Allen presiding. Family and friends will meet 11:15 am Friday at Woodlawn Cemetery for 11:30 am interment. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lonsdale United Methodist Church Building Fund.
