Jimmy Morton - Class of 1955

Jimmy "Jim" Ray Morton, age 84, of Seymour, Tennessee went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 20, 2021 with his family at his bedside. Jim professed his faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 12 at Beaumont Baptist Church, Knoxville. Jim's father Reverend Robert E. Morton baptized his own son February 6, 1949. Jim was a current member of Galilee Baptist Church in South Knoxville and a previous member of Seymour First Baptist.
Jim graduated from Rule High School in 1955. Jim married Shirley Angeline Ankrom in September 1957 and had six children together. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1961 and was raised to the rank of an Airman First Class. During his service he was stationed at St. Etienne, France. After his service he was employed with Gardner Denver as an air compressor salesman. He was fondly known as the Gardner Denver man and retired with 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by parents, Rev. Robert Morton and Nina Ray Laugherty; wife, Martha Morton; daughter, Shelley Morton Pickens.
Jim is survived by his sister, Dot Maples; daughters, Pamella Jeffries and husband Paul, Karen Hackworth and husband John and Angie Morton Sims and significant other Clayton Suttles; sons, Michael Morton and wife Paula and Steve Morton; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Jim leaves his precious memories to be cherished by his family and friends. The Morton family wishes to recognize special caregivers, Susan Wilson, Pat King and Mike Miller. Additionally the family would like to thank the UTMC Hospice team especially, Heather Thacker, RN.

A visitation for Jimmy will be held Thursday, December 23, 2021 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Berry Highland South, 9010 Simpson Road, Knoxville, TN 37920. A Celebration of Life Service to follow at 12:00 pm with Rev. Dwight Singleton officiating. Interment to follow at Berry Highland South Cemetery. Pallbearers, Samuel Morton, Logan Sims, Chris Hackworth, Paul Jeffries, John Hackworth and Roger Pickens.
