Lonnie Dunlap - Class of 1966

Postby Bob » Thu Jan 19, 2023 1:39 pm

Lonnie Ray Dunlap, 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 17, 2023. Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, he graduated from Rule High School in 1966 where he excelled in all sports. Throughout his career, he worked as a roofing estimator and retired from Baggerly Roofing Company in 2010. He was an avid fan of all UT sports and an expert craftsman. He was also a lover of animals and at one point had trained wild squirrels to eat peanuts out of the palm of his hands. Lonnie had a sharp wit and was a naturally-gifted story teller. But most of all, he cherished time with his beloved family. He is survived by his sisters, Lois Dodson and Rhonda Dunlap of Knoxville; and Carolyn Monroe (Don) of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; as well as many nieces and nephews. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Thelma Dunlap; brother, Everett Dunlap; nephew, Ken Dunlap; and a very special aunt, Becky Birdwell, all of Knoxville. Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 20th at 11:00am at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery, 5315 Kingston Pike, in Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Fond memories and condolences may be shared at www.rosefuneraltn.com for the Dunlap family.
