COURTNEY, ALFRED (JAY) - age 71 of Strawberry Plains, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010 at U.T. Medical Center. He was a graduate of Rule High School Class of 1958. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran retiring after 20 years of service as a Master Sergeant E-8. He also retired from Lockheed Martin in 1995. He enjoyed traveling and fishing. Preceded in death by parents, Zelpha and Elmer Courtney; son, Mark Courtney. Survivors: wife of 38 years, Jackie Courtney; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tom Holbert; grandchildren, Joshua Foster, and John Foster and wife Monica; brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Bob) and Jackie Courtney; brother, James (Jimmy) Courtney; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Tom Coffman; 4 nephews and 2 nieces; special friend, Andy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at N. Broadway. Funeral services will be held 8:00 p.m. Sunday in Stevens Chapel with Rev. Josh Greene officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:15 a.m. Monday at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery for a 9:30 committal service.
