BARBEE, GERALD - age 63, of Powell, passed away 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2011 at his home. He was an avid fly fisherman and hunter, a retired mechanical engineering contractor, and preceded in death by his mother, Oral Waggoner Barbee. He was a US Army Vietnam veteran with the Rangers and First Cavalry, receiving 2 Purple Hearts and 2 Bronze Stars. Survivors: son, Sam Barbee of Powell; sisters, Robin Wood (Jim) of Halls, and Janet Smith of Knoxville; brother, Steve Barbee (Cathy) of Clinton; aunts, Faye Hickle of Maynardville, and Arbutus Stooksbury of Knoxville; uncles, Kyle Waggoner of Knoxville, and Hall Waggoner of Corryton. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway is serving the family of Mr. Barbee.
