Stephen Harold Black - Class of 1960

BLACK, STEPHEN HAROLD - age 70, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, September 29th, 2012. He was preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Satra Allen Black of Knoxville; and brothers Leonard and Sam Black. Survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Frankie Boshears Black; daughters, Stephanie Marie (Mike) O'Brien and Cynthia Denise (Tim) Ellison of North Carolina; sisters, Juanita Black Boring; sisters-in-law, Norma Boshears, Bette McClure, Carole Black, and Peggy Thompson; brother-in-law, Joe Boshears and his wife, Charlotte; along with many nieces; nephews; and his much beloved cat "Mister B". Steve retired from the University of Tennessee Medical Center after 44 years of dedicated service. His love of art was well known to many, his original award winning painting in water color and mixed media displayed at various regional art shows brought himself and others immense joy. At the time of his passing, he was the current president of the Tennessee Artist Association. The family will receive friends at the Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel located at 6200 Kingston Pike on Tuesday, October 2nd, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a celebration of Steve's life to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Brent Hall of Concord United Methodist Church presiding over the service. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday at Highland Memorial Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service. Pallbearers: Joe Boshears, Joe Boshears, Jr., Tim Ellison, Joe Trout, Bill Burchfield, Roy Gose, and Mike O'Brien.
