William Jennings Laugherty - Class of 1946

LAUGHERTY, WILLIAM JENNINGS - age 85, of Knoxville, passed away Friday June 14, 2013, at his home. He graduated from Rule High School in 1946, was a 33rd degree Mason, and a member and deacon of First Baptist Church. William was in the real estate business for over 30 years and a property assessor for 20 years. He earned his pilot's license in 1964 and enjoyed flying. He is preceded in death by parents, Charles and Flora Laugherty; wife of 50 years, Lila Irick; and brothers, Edward and James Laugherty. Survived by wife of 12 years, Bobbie Jean Laugherty; daughter, Sherry L. Gilbertson; sons, William Jennings Laugherty, Jr. and Robert Irick Laugherty; grandchild, John W. Gilbertson; and great grandchild, Annika Leigh Gilbertson; sisters, Lorene Laugherty, Mary Beeson, Nina Becker; and brother, Joseph Laugherty and his wife, Deborah; along with several nieces and nephews. Services will be Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway, with Rev. Dave Ward officiating, interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William's name to the organ fund at First Baptist Church, 510 W.
