Joe Wallace - Class of 1950

WALLACE, JOE - age 82, of Knoxville, passed away on Friday, August 23rd, 2013. He was born April 21st, 1931, in Knoxville to the late Charles and Flora Wallace. Joe was a member of Second Methodist Church, Knoxville. He was a graduate of Rule High School in 1950, where he lettered in football and married his high school sweetheart, Margie Carver. He subsequently attended the University of Tennessee. He began working at Union Carbide in 1952 and retired from its predecessor agency Martin Marietta Energy Corporation after more than 35 years of service in 1988. He additionally held a Tennessee Realtor's License since the mid 1970's and owned and operated several small businesses. Joe was witty, kind and brought much joy to those around him. He had a generous spirit that attracted and welcomed others into his life. Joe cherished his family, children, and grandchildren and the love they shared will forever be cherished. He is preceded in death by siblings, Shirley Wallace and Jim Wallace; nephew, Craig Shipe; and former brother-in-law, Don Carver. He is survived by children, Susan Tackett and husband, Alan, of Clinton, Tennessee, and Jeff Wallace and wife, Martie, of Powell, Tennessee; grandchildren, Monica Farner and husband, Glenn of Nashville, Tennessee, Lauren Brown and husband, Ames of Powell, Tennessee, Greg Tackett and wife, Missy of Jacksboro, Tennessee; great grandchildren; Will and Anna Grace Farner, and Emily and Seth Tackett; siblings, Phyllis Shipe of Port Richey, Florida, Charles Wallace and wife, Mary Ann, and Tom Wallace and wife, Sandi all of Knoxville, Tennessee; former wife, Margie Henderson and husband, Wallace of Clinton, Tennessee; former sisters-in-law, Sue Boatman and husband, Jim of Clinton, Tennessee, and Yoshiko Carver of Knoxville; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 7th, 2013, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Highland Memorial Funeral Home, with memorial service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Graveside services will immediately follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
