SMITH, JOHN W. (BUDDY) - age 82, of Knoxville, passed away at 5:25 a.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2013. He was a longstanding member of Second United Methodist Church, Knoxville. Preceded in death by parents, Alex and Mollie Smith and Leona and Howard Haynes; sister, Patsy Hurst. Survived by loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Barbara Haynes Smith; son, Steven E. Smith, wife Sherry; daughter, Cheryl A. Clower, husband Ronald; grandchildren, Jason Smith, wife Annie, Kevin Smith, Matthew Smith, wife Stephanie, Justin Clower, Kristen Graham, husband Sydney; great-grandchildren, Emily and Gabe Smith, Samantha Graham; sisters, Bobbie Cole, Elizabeth Pressley, Laverne Maddox, husband Robert; brother, Carl Smith, wife Ragena; very close friends, John West, Marti Baker, Sandra and Jack Clower; many more friends and relatives. Buddy worked as a lineman and engineer for 45 years at AT&T. He was a Mason for over 50 years, worked with the FISH Organization, was involved for 10 years with food ministry at church, where he was a youth and adult Sunday School teacher for many years. A musician, he played the handbells at church, and sang in the choir for 50 years. He played and crafted dulcimers with a special group of people. Family will receive friends at Weaver Funeral Home, 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, followed by an 8:00 pm Chapel service. Rev. M.C. Taylor and Rev. Timothy Paul will officiate. Family and friends will gather at Weaver Funeral Home 10:00 am Wednesday, for procession to Highland Memorial Gardens, for 11:00 am interment services. Jason Smith, Kevin Smith, Matthew Smith, Justin Clower, Sydney Graham, and Bill Storey will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Weaver Funeral Home, 5815 Western Avenue (588-3868).
