DAY, ROBERT (BOB) E., SR. - October 10, 1925 - Febuary, 07, 2014. We lost our loving husband, father, grandfather, and "Papaw" Bob on Febuary 7, 2014, at Tennova Hospice in Halls, TN. He was the fourth son of Henry Taylor and Mary Jane Day. Three brothers, Bill, James, and Charles preceded him in death. Bob graduated from Rule High School, Class of 1944, where he lettered in football, baseball, and basketball. He was a captain of the basketball team in 1944. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II in the Philippines. Bob loved life, his country and his large family. He retired from AT&T with 38 years of service. One of his most enjoyable responsibilities during this time was maintaining the communications from the press box to the field at all UT home football games. He coached little league baseball at Inskip and Fountain City ball parks and he was a football official for the TSSAA for 32 years. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Norma Maxey Day; and four children and their spouses, Robert E. (Gene) Day, Jr. and Katie, Carson Day and Ida, Michael Day and Ethel, Rebecca (Becky) Perkins and Dean; grandchildren and spouses, Scott Day, Shane Day, Jennifer Day, Misty Cooksey. and Len, John Legere and Jennifer, Robert Day and SunHee, Carson Day and Marcia, Nathan Day and Dr. Heather, Rebecca (Becca) Koontz and Tyler; step-grandchildren and spouses, Allison Carter, Lauren O'Reilly and Kenny, Dena George, Thomas Perkins; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Day Weaver; sister-in-law, Marian Clinton and Harold. Grandsons will be pallbearers. Many thanks for the loving care Bob received at Ben Atchley Veterans Home for the past four months. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer's of Tennessee, Tennova Hospice, or the charity of your choice will be appreciated. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m., Monday, February 10, 2014 in Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN 37918. The funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m., Rev. Nathan Day officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
