BROOME, BARBARA RUTH WILLIAMS - age 81 of Knoxville, passed into Glory on Sunday, April 27, 2014. She was born August 13, 1932 - the beloved only daughter of Hobert and Emily Morgan Williams. Barbara graduated from Rule High School in 1950 and treasured lifelong relationships with her Golden Bear classmates. She married a handsome young businessman, William Andrew Broome, that same year, and was his bride for 53 years, raising 3 daughters - Terrye Morgan Broome Guthe (Phil), Janis Lynn Broome Griffin, and Lorri Ann Broome Wagner (Mike). Barbara had a deep love of wildflowers and gardening, spending lots of time with God in the beautifully landscaped areas that Bill created for her. Her grandchildren, great grandchildren and their friends knew her as the 'Butterfly Lady', watching with her the development and release of rescued butterflies. In recent years, she delighted in the birds that visited outside her windows, and loved seeing her orchids flourish and bloom. Barbara also enjoyed bridge afternoons with friends, good books, and was an avid fan of University of Tennessee men's and Lady Vols basketball. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, parents, and brothers Jerry, Jack, and Bill Williams. In addition to her daughters and sons-in-law, loving survivors include grandchildren: Andy (Arin) Guthe, Erin (Dina) Guthe, Neal (Sara) Guthe, Boone (Emily) Guthe, Max Guthe, Amanda Griffin, Kasey Griffin, Emily Denton, and Megan Denton; and great-grandchildren: Lillian, Liam, Lucy, and London Guthe, Baylor Guthe, Devin Griffin, Chloe Coker, Casey Paskel, and Layni Griffin; brothers Hoby (Kathy) Williams, and Fred (Linda) Williams; devoted caregivers and friends Judy and Bob Gerstmyer, and 'adopted' daughters Jan Christopher Corbitt and Tammy LaFevers Ellison. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm Friday, May 2, at Rose Mortuary Bearden, with celebration of Barbara's life to follow at 2:00 pm. Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
