BUDDY RAY MATHEWS 78 of Knoxville passed on to his heavenly home Tuesday, July 8, 2014. He was born February 23, 1936 in Knoxville, TN to the late Hubert Clayton and Ruby Fay Covington Mathews. He graduated from Rule High School in 1954. He retired in 1996 after working 33 years at Rohm Haas. On June 03, 1956 he married Patricia Ann Trowbridge from LaFollette, TN. He was a long time member of West Lonsdale Baptist Church. He was a deacon since age 20 and also a Sunday School Teacher for many years. He had numerous friends and was well liked by all who knew him. His Rohm Haas friends knew him as Stretch. He is preceded in death by his brother, Clayton Lee Mathews. He is survived by his wife Patricia; son, Terry Ray (Kathy) Mathews; daughters, Sharon Lynne Cooper and Deborah Kay (Wayne) Short; grandsons, Derek and Caleb Cooper and Matt and Ryan Short; granddaughter, Nyah Cooper; several nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the wonderful and loving team from Arbor Terrace Assisted Living and West Hills Nursing Home who cared for him these past few months. We would also like to thank Caris for their respectful hospice care. A special thanks to Brenda Gibson for her many visits and Pam Lewis for her many cards and many other friends for their visits, cards and prayers. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to West Lonsdale Baptist Church building fund. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Sunday at Weaver's Chapel with the service to follow. Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating.
