HOOD, JAMES GILBERT "JIM" - born March 24, 1929 passed from the loving arms of his wife into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. He was preceded in death by parents, Francis Gilbert and Effie Johnson Hood; sister, Lois Harmon; and brother, Paul Reece Hood. He is survived by his wife, Polly; daughter, Cherie H. Adcock and her children, granddaughter, Lauren Mayes and husband Ken and their children, Austin, Katelyn, and Ryan, and grandson, LCDR Justin Adcock and wife Heather and their daughter, Ellis; son, J. Scott Hood and wife Rhonda and their children, Wesley and Caroline; sisters, Ruth Bowditch and Bobbie Watson; special nephew, Eddie Costner; sister-in-law and husband, Nancy and Bob Henry; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Jim was a Christian and a member of Lake Hills Presbyterian Church. Affectionately known as "Jim Dandy" to his family, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jim loved music and was blessed with a beautiful tenor voice, which he used to honor God all his life. He was a former member of McCalla Avenue Baptist Church where he used his many talents in service to God. He especially enjoyed singing duets with his son, Scott. He also enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with his family. Jim served his country in the U. S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War and afterward graduated from the University of Tennessee. Jim retired from TVA after 35 years of service. Jim was a member of Burlington Masonic Lodge #763 F&AM. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Holston Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they provided. A celebration of life service will be held at Lake Hills Presbyterian Church, 3805 Maloney Road, 37920 on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. with Dr. James McTyre officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lake Hills Presbyterian Church for the Stephen Ministry. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. prior to the service. There will be a private interment with military honors provided by East TN Veteran Honor Guard at Spring Place Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
