DAVIS, EARL THOMAS, JR. - 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Knoxville, Tennessee, on January 1, 2015. Born on May 12, 1933, in Knoxville, "Papa Earl" Davis was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Earl was a follower of Christ, placing his faith in Jesus at an early age as a member of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church. Earl was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a demolition expert during the Korean War. He retired from the United States Postal Service after a career spanning over 35 years. His work ethic, love, grace, friendship, and appreciation for all he had in life was evident in the joy that he passed along to all who knew him. Earl was preceded in death by his father and mother, Earl Thomas and Mandy Gaines Davis; and his sister Wanda Tarwater. Survived and will be sorely missed by his best friend and wife of over 61 years, Joyce Hale Davis; son, Larry; son and daughter-in-law, Lance and Susan Davis; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and David McMillan; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Jan Davis; grandchildren, Carey Davis, Natalie Davis, Aaron and Alicia Clevenger, Joshua McMillan, Laney McMillan; and several nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Funeral Services at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
