Clyde Childress - Class of 1943

Clyde Mitchell "C.M." Childress, 92, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017. He was born in 1925; graduated from Rule High School and retired from South Central Bell Telephone Co. He was a WWII veteran and served with the 78th Infantry Division in the Battle of the Bulge where he was seriously wounded and hospitalized in France and England. His church family was Wallace Memorial Baptist Church where he was an active member for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Kathryn Ruth Emert. Clyde is survived by his children: Sharon and husband, Gary Henderson; James Childress; Thomas Childress; and Janet and husband, Richard Bolus; grandchildren: Martin Childress, Samuel Blair Dillenger, Amanda Childress, Tina Childress, Kathryn and husband, John Noto; and Tucker Bolus. He also had several great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church on Thursday, November 30th from 11am-12pm with the service to follow at 12pm. Family and friends will meet at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, Gov. John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville for a 2 pm graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. Condolences may be left at www.weaverfuneralservices.com.
