Obituary for Carl Canton Ensor Jr
CARL CANTON ENSOR, JR. – Age 94, went into the arms of his Heavenly Father Saturday July 21, 2018. Carl was born December 28, 1923 to Carl and Lennie Ensor. Carl had a kind and gentle heart, was a very caring man and was the leader of his family that consisted of three brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Rule High School in 1942. Carl proudly served in the Air Force, stationed in England during World War II. Upon his return, Carl attended the University of Tennessee and graduated from the Midwest School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Carl was a well respected banker for 30 years as the Executive Vice President of the Hamilton National Bank and United American Bank. After he retired at age 55, Carl helped start two new banks. He also served on the board of directors for the Ft. Sanders Alliance Co. and Ft. Sanders Hospital for many years, and was one of the founding members on the board of directors at the Thompson Cancer Center. He was a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church. Carl and his wife Barbara also enjoyed 20+ years of traveling throughout the US and Canada during his retirement. He was a supportive husband, a great father and very proud grandfather of two and great-grandfather of two. Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Barbara Dodson Ensor and sister Virginia Blackstock. He is survived by son Rusty Ensor; grandson Drew Ensor (Amanda); granddaughter Becca Criswell (Brandon); great-granddaughters Reese and Finley Criswell; brothers Dan Ensor (Opal), Jack Ensor and Tommy Ensor (Jean);and sister Linda Sexton (Wayne). The family would like to thank Windsor Gardens Assisted Living for their excellent care as well as UT Hospice. Carl’s family will receive friends at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel Sunday July 29th from 1:00-2:45pm followed by a short Celebration of Life service at 3:00. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery with pallbearers being all of Carl’s nephews: Benny Blackstock, Tom Blackstock, Mike Ensor, David Ensor, Jody Ensor, Tim Dalton, Matt Sexton and Mark Hickman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Pat Summitt Foundation, 520 W. Summit Hill Dr Suite 1101 Knoxville, TN 37902 or Second Harvest Food Bank, 136 Harvest Lane Maryville, TN 37801.
