arolyn Waggoner Jones, 78, of Knoxville died April 18, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer and a long life as mother, grandmother, homemaker and friend to all. Carolyn was born Jan 30, 1945, and grew up in the Mechanicsville Community off Baxter Avenue. She was a graduate of Rule High School and later a member of Shannondale Presbyterian Church.
Carolyn will live forever in the memories of family and friends for her sense of humor and for the thousands of wonderful meals prepared and served in her kitchen. Her door was always open, and friends knew to make sure they timed their visits just right for lunch or dinner-time. She enjoyed countless hours over the years talking and laughing with her children and their friends while cooking and carrying out one project after another.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Jones, and her parents, Earl and Elizabeth Waggoner. Survivors include her children, Robert Jones (wife Kim) and Susan Sheppard (husband Todd); her grandchildren, Zeke Flatford and Christina Jones; and step-grandchildren Colin, Braeden, Amelia and Rowan Sheppard.
The family would like to thank UT Medical Center and Sacred Ground Hospice House for the excellent care Carolyn received.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 28, from 5-7 p.m. with a service to follow officiated by Rev. Steve Mealor at Stevens Mortuary, 1304 Oglewood Ave., Knoxville, TN 37917.
