Michael Eugene "Gene" Scrivner died peacefully on November 4, 2017 at the age of 89.
He was born June 1, 1928 in Knoxville to Frank and Althea Scrivner, was a graduate of Rule High School and served his country in the US Marine Corps. He married his high school sweetheart, Anne Kennedy Scrivner, in 1950 and they spent 67 happy years together.
Gene had a distinguished 36 year career at Oak Ridge Y-12 before retiring with Anne to a life of gardening, travel and time with his family and beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Anne, son Michael Scrivner of Washington, DC, daughter Lori Walton of Knoxville, granddaughter Jessica Vaughan and husband Wes of Atlanta, grandson Michael Walton of Denver, Colorado, brother and sister-in-law Alvin and Ruby Scrivner of Maryville, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents and recently by his faithful canine companion Lola.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 9 at 12 pm at First Baptist Church Knoxville. Rev. Tom Ogburn will officiate the memorial service at 1 pm in the church sanctuary with a reception following the service. There will be a private burial at Greenwood Cemetery.
